History
Shigino Station traces its origin to 1 November 1932, when a signal box was installed between Hanaten and Kyōbashi on the state-owned Katamachi Line; it was upgraded to a full station on 1 September 1933. The upbound track was elevated in July 1964 and the downbound track that November, when a new station building was completed. After the 1987 privatisation the station passed to JR West. On 24 December 2006 the Osaka Municipal Subway — Osaka Metro since 2018 — opened its own Shigino Station on the Imazatosuji Line, underground beneath Imazatosuji, the street running past the east side of the JR station. Major track works between 2011 and 2018 reconfigured the JR site into a three-platform, four-track layout to host the Osaka Higashi Line, which began through service to Shin-Ōsaka in March 2019.
