History

Sabae Station opened on 15 July 1896 in the Hinodechō neighbourhood of Sabae, Fukui Prefecture. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. From the start of the revised timetable on 16 March 2024, when the Hokuriku Shinkansen's western extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga opened, the conventional-line station was transferred from JR West to Hapi-Line Fukui; it now lies on the Hapi-Line Fukui Line, 40.3 km from the line's terminus. The layout comprises one side platform and one island platform connected by a footbridge, with a staffed Midori no Madoguchi ticket office.
