History
Ritsurin Station opened on 21 December 1925 as a station of the Railway Ministry's Kōtoku Line. Freight handling was discontinued and transferred to Takamatsu Station on 10 April 1974; a groundbreaking ceremony for the elevated station building was held on 6 May of that year, and when the station was raised onto the viaduct on 9 November 1976, baggage handling was discontinued at the same time. It became a station of Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku) with the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The ICOCA IC card became usable on 14 March 2020, and from October 2021 a Midori no Kenbaiki Plus assisted ticket machine came into use, while the Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office ended service. It is an elevated station with one island platform and two tracks, staffed from 7:00 to 19:00.
Notes
Among intermediate stations on the Kōtoku Line, excluding its terminal stations, Ritsurin has the second-highest ridership after Shōzui Station, and its station sign panel reads "the station for Ritsurin Garden."
