History

Kitachō Station opened on 1 November 1986 when Japanese National Railways added a temporary stop on the existing Kōtoku Line, 6.7 km from the Takamatsu terminus. With JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR Shikoku, which upgraded the temporary stop to a full station; it carries the station number T24. The unstaffed station has a single side platform and no station building, but a shelter is provided on the platform along with a small "Tickets Corner" kiosk housing an automatic ticket vending machine. Only local services on the Kōtoku Line call here, and a bicycle parking area is provided near the station entrance. Takamatsu University and Takamatsu Municipal Kitakita Elementary School are among the facilities in the surrounding area.

Notes

Kitachō was added late in the Japanese National Railways era, on 1 November 1986, as a temporary stop, and was upgraded to a full station on 1 April 1987, the day JR Shikoku took over at privatisation.
