History

Ōkawano Station was established as a Kitakyushu Railway station on 1 March 1935 at Ōkawano, Ōkawa-machi, Imari City, Saga Prefecture. It was nationalized on 1 October 1937, coming under the Railway Ministry. It became unstaffed on 22 March 1983, and was transferred to the JR Kyushu Chikuhi Line at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987. In 2002 the aging wooden station building was demolished, leaving the station without a building for a time, but on 18 March 2006 the current building was rebuilt, incorporating "Mayuyama Furusato-kan," a facility for local resident interaction and tourist information. It has one island platform with two tracks, the only station capable of train exchange on the Chikuhi Line's non-electrified section.

Notes

It is the only station capable of train exchange on the Chikuhi Line's non-electrified section (the Chikuhi West Line); the current station building incorporates "Mayuyama Furusato-kan," a facility for local resident interaction and tourist information.
