History

Komanaki Station was established as Kitakyushu Railway's Komanaki stop on 1 March 1935 in Ōkawa-machi, Imari City, Saga Prefecture. It was nationalized on 1 October 1937, becoming the Railway Ministry's Komanaki Station, and was upgraded to a general station on 1 April 1942. Freight handling ended in 1961 and parcel handling in 1970, leaving it unstaffed. It became a JR Kyushu Chikuhi Line station at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987. After the wooden station building was demolished, a small log-cabin-style building was erected, but it was badly damaged by a typhoon just days later, leaving only the foundation.

Notes

Komanaki Station served as a filming location for director Yoshimitsu Morita's film Bokutachi Kyūkō: A Ressha de Ikō (released 2012), and its platform and a KiHa 125 series railcar also appeared, alongside lead actors Ken'ichi Matsuyama and Eita, on the cover of the April 2012 issue of the JTB Timetable.
