History
Omokagebashi Station (SA 29) is a Toden Arakawa Line (Tokyo Sakura Tram) stop in Nishi-Waseda 3-chōme, Shinjuku, Tokyo. It opened on 25 December 1928 as the terminus of the Ōji Electric Tramway's extension from Kishibojin-mae. On 30 March 1930 the line was extended further to Waseda. The stop became part of the Tokyo City Tram Waseda Line (today's Arakawa Line) on 1 February 1942, when Ōji Electric Tramway was bought out by Tokyo City. The defunct Totsuka Line (used by Route 15 to Kayabachō) connected here from 1 December 1949 until its closure on 29 September 1968. The tracks and platforms now sit on the median of the widened Shin-Mejiro-dōri (Metropolitan Route 8), with two opposed platforms either side of the Omokagebashi intersection.
Notes
The stop is named after Omokage Bridge over the Kanda River; a bridge has stood at this spot since the Edo period, rebuilt in successive generations. On the far bank stands a stone monument to the yamabuki legend associated with Ōta Dōkan.
