History

Ōkurayama Station opened on 14 February 1926 as Futo Station, on the Tokyu Tōyoko Line in Kōhoku-ku, Yokohama. It was renamed Ōkurayama on 31 March 1932 after the nearby Okura Institute, founded by businessman Okura Kunihiko, and reflected tourism plans for a plum garden then run by the Tokyo Yokohama Electric Railway, later the city's Okurayama Park. The elevated station has two side platforms above the building and ticket gates; the sloping site puts the Shibuya-side end at ground level. Platform-extension work, done with rebuilding the adjacent Futo overbridge between 1981 and 1984, lengthened the platforms for eight-car trains; escalators and platform screen doors have since been added. Today the station serves the Kōhoku ward office and a shopping street.

Notes

Tokyu's underground Shin-Yokohama Line passes directly beneath Ōkurayama Station, about 41.4 meters down, but has no station of its own there; in a 2008 briefing for local residents, the operator cited weak ground conditions as the reason a stop was never built at this location.
