Location

History

Ohashi Station opened on 25 December 1933 when the Nagasaki Electric Tramway Main Line was extended from Shimo-no-kawa, and served as the line's northern terminus until it was extended onward to Sumiyoshi in 1950. The name, originally read "Ohbashi," was corrected to "Ohashi" in 1990 after local historians pointed out the error. The stop has two opposing platforms on a dedicated right-of-way, reached by a level crossing, and rebuilt with shelter-style canopies in 2000. An adjacent tram depot burned down in 1944 and was damaged in the 1945 atomic bombing before becoming a bus depot. Today it is stop 18 on the Main Line, served by routes 1, 2 and 3, and busiest on Nagasaki Big N Stadium baseball days.

Notes

The tram depot that once stood beside the station was destroyed by fire in 1944 and then further devastated by the atomic bombing the following year; its site is now Nagasaki Bus's Ohashi depot rather than a tram facility.
