Location
History
Ogura Station opened on 3 November 1928 as a stop on Nara Electric Railroad's new line linking Momoyama-Goryōmae and Saidaiji (now Yamato-Saidaiji). It was renamed Naraden Ogura Station by 1 April 1930, then reverted to Ogura Station on 1 October 1963, when Nara Electric merged into Kintetsu Railway and the line became the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. The station is numbered B10. The station has two opposing side platforms sized for six-car trains; since no overpass or underpass links them, each side keeps its own ticket gate, though a pedestrian underpass runs outside the gates. PiTaPa card service began in 2007. Today the station, in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, is the closest stop to the Nintendo Museum.
Notes
In the 1920s, Nara Electric Railroad was granted a license (26 June 1929, after applying in November 1927) for an unrealized branch of about 35.2 km running from Ogura via Kisabe in Katano (then Katano-chō, Kitakawachi District) to near Tamatsukuri Station on the Osaka Loop Line, envisioned as a fourth Kyoto–Osaka intercity route; the plan was never built, and after the merger into Kintetsu the license went unrenewed and lapsed in 1967.
