History

Nyūzen Station opened on 16 April 1910 with the Hokuriku Main Line's extension from Uozu to Tomari, in what is now the town of Nyūzen in Toyama Prefecture. Private sidings connected the station to the Kureha Bōseki plant, listed in 1953, and to the Tōyōbō plant, listed in 1970, before freight handling was discontinued on 2 October 1972. Double-tracking to Nishi-Nyūzen and to Ogawa Signal Box was completed in 1966 and 1967, and the line was electrified as far as Tomari in August 1965. With the 14 March 2015 extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Kanazawa the parallel JR West local line was transferred to the third-sector Ainokaze Toyama Railway, which became the station's operator.

Notes

Since the introduction of a new passenger-information system in March 2017, the platform arrival chime has been an arrangement of "Shanhai kaeri no Riru", a hit by Nyūzen-born singer Ken Tsumura.
