History

Nyūgawa Station opened on 1 May 1923. On 18 March 1950, an imperial train associated with Emperor Shōwa's postwar tour stopped for five minutes, and a welcoming ceremony was held in front of the station. Also on 20 April 1966, Emperor Shōwa and Empress Kōjun boarded an imperial train departing this station and arriving at Takamatsu Station to attend the 17th National Tree-Planting Festival. Freight handling ended in 1982, and parcel handling (excluding newspapers) ended in 1986. It became a JR Shikoku station at the 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways. Use of the 'Midori no Kenbaiki Plus' (green ticket machine) began in November 2021, and the 'Midori no Madoguchi' ceased operation on 31 December of the same year.
