History
Nishichō Station (C08) is a Toyama Chihō Railway tram stop in Nishichō, Toyama City, on prefectural road 43. It opened on 1 September 1913 as a Toyama Electric Tramway stop, was transferred to the Toyama City Tramway on 1 July 1920, and joined Toyama Chihō Railway on 1 January 1943. It was suspended after the Toyama air raid of 2 August 1945 and reopened progressively from 14 January 1946. Sasazu Line trains ran through to the stop from 1 October 1950 and Imizu Line trains from 31 December 1950, until 1967 and 1961 respectively. Nishichō was a branch-line junction at its opening (Main Line and Branch Line) and again from 1928 with the East Line; later closures reduced it to an intermediate stop, and the opening of the Toyama Toshin Loop Line on 23 December 2009 made it a junction once more. The opposed platforms are staggered (chidori-shiki).
Notes
Nishichō has been a junction stop in three separate eras — the Main Line and Branch Line from its opening in 1913, the East Line from 1928, and, after later closures left it an intermediate stop, the Toyama Toshin Loop Line since 23 December 2009. Loop-line trams cannot be boarded or alighted at Nishichō, so passengers transferring towards Minami-Toyama must get off at Nakamachi (Nishichō-Kita) and walk.
