It opened on 1 September 1913 as Minamida-machi tram stop on the Toyama Electric Tramway, was transferred to the Toyama City Tramway on 1 July 1920, joined Toyama Chihō Railway on 1 January 1943, was suspended in March 1943 due to wartime electricity restrictions and again on 2 August 1945 by the Toyama Air Raid, then resumed before being renamed Kami-honmachi on 15 April 1965.

Notes

The stop's name 上本町 is read Kamihonmachi; it was called Minamida-machi from its opening in 1913 until 15 April 1965.
