Location

History

Nishi-Izumi Station opened as "Takemoto Station" on the Ministry of Railways' Sendai Line on 15 October 1923. It was absorbed into the Kagoshima Main Line on 17 October 1927 with the opening of the Yunoura–Minamata section. On 11 July 1928, after "Takemoto" disappeared as a place name in the area around the station, it was renamed "Nishi-Izumi Station" for its location west of Izumi Station. Freight handling ended in September 1961 and baggage handling in 1984. The current station building was completed in August 1966, and the station was placed under contracted operation with the introduction of CTC in September 1970. It was inherited by JR Kyushu at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and transferred to the Hisatsu Orange Railway Line on 13 March 2004. Its station number is OR17, and it is presently a staffed station managed by the NPO Hokusatsu Club.

Notes

Because there are many high schools nearby, the station is staffed only during the weekday morning and evening school commuting rush hours.
