History

Nawa Station began on 11 March 1909 as a temporary halt, opened by the government railway between Mikuriya Station and Yodoe Station for the cherry-blossom season at Nawa Shrine, from which its name comes. The line-naming order of 12 October 1909 placed it on the San'in Main Line. The halt closed on 31 January 1912 and a seasonal, passenger-only temporary station replaced it; a year-round Nawa Station followed on 10 February 1955. Staffing was contracted out on 1 June 1968 and again on 10 March 1972, and the station became unstaffed on 14 March 1985. The 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japan National Railways brought it into JR West. ICOCA is planned for spring 2027.

Notes

The station building, which once housed a pub, is set alongside the platform.
