History

Mikuriya Station opened on 1 November 1902 as the terminus when the government railway's line between this station, Yonago, and Sakai (now Sakaiminato) opened. It became a through station with the extension to Yabase Station (now Urayasu) on 28 August 1903, and was placed on the San'in Main Line under the line-naming system established on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended in 1962 and parcel handling in 1972, with the station becoming unstaffed. It passed to JR West on 1 April 1987. On 29 November 2016, the main station building and passenger platform canopy were registered as national Registered Tangible Cultural Properties; it is the oldest station in the San'in region still using the station building it had when the line opened.

Notes

The waiting room on platforms 2 and 3 uses a converted guard's van, Yo 4709; before renovation around 2017, the van's original interior and sun-shading shutters remained almost unchanged.
