History

Namegawa Island Station is a station on the JR East Sotobō Line in Hamanamegawa, Katsuura, Chiba Prefecture, which opened on 2 July 1970 as a temporary halt intended to carry tourists to the "Namegawa Island" leisure facility. Some express trains began stopping there on the 18th of that month, and all trains stopped there from 15 July 1972. It was inherited by JR East with the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and on the same date was upgraded to a permanent unstaffed station. After Namegawa Island closed on 31 August 2001, the limited express Wakashio began passing through without stopping, and the station has continued to exist as an unstaffed station still bearing the facility's name. The station building was rebuilt in January 2008, and Suica became usable from 14 March 2009.

Notes

On Suica usage records, the station name is displayed as "Namegawa Ai."
