History

Kazusa-Okitsu Station opened on 1 April 1927 on the Sotobō Line in present-day Katsuura, Chiba Prefecture. The extension from Katsuura had begun in July 1925 and was difficult work with many tunnels. Freight and parcels handling were both discontinued on 11 May 1971, leaving the station with passenger service only. Upon the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station was transferred to JR East, and on 14 March 2009 Suica came into use and the station was incorporated into the Tokyo Suburban Area fare zone.

Notes

Because the connecting road from the station to the prefectural road ran through the built-up area, the land purchases and the evictions they required were reportedly slow.
