History

Nagaura Station (Meitetsu station number TA14) opened on 1 September 1930 as a station on the Aichi Electric Railway, in Nagaura 1-chōme, Chita, Aichi. It became a Meitetsu station on 1 August 1935, when the Aichi Electric Railway merged into Meigi Railway and the combined company was launched as Nagoya Tetsudō (Meitetsu). The station was destaffed on 1 September 1970, and automatic ticket gates and ticket machines were installed in January 2005.

Notes

The Nagaura area was originally developed as a villa district, including the Nagaura Kaien cultural housing estate; the "Tako no Tāchan" (Octopus Tā-chan) reinforced-concrete monument was installed beside the station in 1927 as the symbol of the Nagaura bathing beach. The beach was destroyed by the Isewan Typhoon (Typhoon Vera) in 1959 and never restored — the site was reclaimed as landfill — and the Tāchan monument was dismantled in December 1963.
