History

Momoyama-Goryōmae Station opened on 3 November 1928, when the Nara Electric Railway opened the section between this station and Saidaiji (present-day Yamato-Saidaiji). The section between Kyoto Station and this station opened on 15 November of the same year. A connecting track to Keihan Main Line's Tanbabashi Station was newly built on 21 December 1945, after which all trains began through-running to Keihan's Tanbabashi Station. It became a station of Kintetsu (Kinki Nippon Railway) through a company merger on 1 October 1963, and the "PiTaPa" IC card became usable from 1 April 2007. Station staffing was changed to fixed time-slot deployment from 10 January 2024. It is an elevated station with two opposing side platforms, and has been of elevated construction since it opened.

Notes

At the planning stage the line was to be built underground, but the Fushimi Sake Brewers' Association objected on the grounds that this would cut off underground water veins, so the station was built elevated from the outset.
