History

Minami-Ikoma Station was newly established on 28 December 1926, when the Shigi-Ikoma Electric Railway extended its line and opened the section between Motosanjōguchi and Kari-Shin-Ikoma. Kintetsu (Kinki Nippon Railway) merged with the Shigi-Ikoma Electric Railway on 1 October 1964, making it a station on the Kintetsu Ikoma Line. The section between Nabatake and Minami-Ikoma was doubled on 31 July 1977, and PiTaPa became usable on 1 April 2007. The station became unstaffed all day on 1 October 2021. The ticket gates and concourse are underground, while the platforms are at ground level, arranged as two opposed platforms serving two tracks. The line is single-track toward Ōji and double-track toward Ikoma, and trains can pass each other here.

Notes

The platforms have an effective length of four cars, but land has been reserved toward Ōji in anticipation of doubling the track there. East of the station toward Ikoma there was once a rail yard; it has since been removed, leaving only a pull-out siding used for track maintenance.
