History

Mimitsu Station opened on 11 June 1921 as the new northern terminus of the then-Miyazaki Main Line, which Japanese Government Railways was extending northward in phases. It became a through station on 11 October of the same year when the track was extended onward to Tomitaka, and the wider Kokura–Miyakonojō route was redesignated the Nippō Main Line on 15 December 1923. Freight services ended in 1962, baggage handling in 1974, and the station was unstaffed from 1 November 1984. It passed to JR Kyushu at the 1 April 1987 privatisation; the station building was demolished on 31 March 1993 and replaced by the small wooden, tile-roofed waiting room that stands today.

Notes

From the area around the station through to Tsuno Station the JR maglev test track runs in parallel with the Nippō Main Line, with the Linear Test Centre standing just outside.
