History

Higashi-Tsuno Station opened on 21 August 1952 as a petition station of Japanese National Railways. Baggage handling ended on 20 November 1974, after which it handled passengers only and became unstaffed at the same time. An adjoining maglev observation deck was completed on 20 April 1979. With the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it became a JR Kyushu Nippō Main Line station, located at Yamasue, Kawakita, Tsuno-chō, Koyu District, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is a ground-level station with two opposed platforms serving two tracks in a single-track-through arrangement, equipped with a footbridge; it has no station building, only a waiting shelter. The adjoining Tsuno-chō maglev test-line viewing facility and museum was demolished in 2006.

Notes

Near the station there was once an adjoining Tsuno-chō maglev test-line viewing facility and museum, which existed from 1979 to 2006 but has since been demolished.
