History

Mimasaka-Oiwake Station is a station on the JR West Kishin Line in Kamigōchi, Maniwa, Okayama Prefecture. It opened on 21 August 1923 as a terminus, when the Railway Ministry's Sakubi Line (now the Kishin Line) opened between Tsuyama and this station. It became an intermediate station when the Sakubi Line was extended to Kuse on 1 May 1924, became part of the Sakubi East Line in 1929, part of the Sakubi Line when the Tsuyama–Niimi section was completed in 1930, and part of the Kishin Line on 10 October 1936. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1963, and parcel handling ended along with unstaffing on 12 March 1973; it became a JR West station at the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. It is a through-track station with a single side platform on the right side facing Niimi, with a station building whose walls are decorated with illustrations, though no automatic ticket vending machine is installed.

Notes

Because the surrounding area is one of the foggiest regions in the prefecture, it markets itself as "the home of Kiri-tarō," and the station building has an attached community facility, "Kiri-tarō no Yakata," themed on the mascot character.
