History

Michinoue Station was established on 21 July 1914 as Michinoue stop of the Ryōbi Light Railway, predecessor of the Fukuen Line. It was upgraded to Michinoue Station on 29 June 1920, gaining full station status. Until around the Shōwa 40s (1965–1974), there were sidings on both the south and north sides of the station where freight was loaded and unloaded. The Ryōbi Light Railway became the Ryōbi Railway in 1926, and, following nationalisation in 1933, became a station of the Ministry of Railways' Fukuen Line; it became a station of JR West with the division and privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987.
