History
Michinoo Station opened on 22 July 1897, the same day the private Kyushu Railway opened its line north from Urakami (then called Nagasaki Station) to its terminus at Nagayo, Michinoo being an intermediate station between the two. Kyushu Railway was nationalised on 1 July 1907, and on 12 October 1909 Japanese Government Railways designated the route from Tosu through Haiki, Ōmura and Michinoo to Nagasaki as the Nagasaki Main Line. When JNR opened a shorter inland bypass through to Urakami on 2 October 1972 — the 'new line', or Ichinuno branch — the older alignment through Michinoo became the old line, or Nagayo branch. At privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Kyushu; its traditional Japanese-design wooden building remains in use and is staffed by JR Kyushu Tetsudou Eigyou.
Notes
Across from the surviving timber station building lies the abandoned platform and track-bed of a second track, removed during a later singling, still visible from the operating side.
