History

Matsugaura Station is a JR Kyushu Ibusuki Makurazaki Line halt at Chiran-chō Minami-Beppu, Minamikyūshū, Kagoshima. It opened on 31 October 1963 as a station on the JNR Ibusuki Makurazaki Line, the date the Ibusuki Line was extended westward to Makurazaki and reorganised as the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line — nine stations including Matsugaura were opened simultaneously. It opened from the outset as an unstaffed passenger-only station handling neither freight nor parcels. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, it passed to JR Kyushu. The station has a single side platform with one track; there is no station building, and passengers reach the platform via stairs.

Notes

Matsugaura was one of nine stations opened on the same day, 31 October 1963 — Goryō, Ishikaki, Mizunarikawa, Ei-Ōkawa, Matsugaura, Satsuma-Shioya, Shirasawa, Satsuma-Itashiki and Makurazaki — when the Ibusuki Line was extended west to Makurazaki and re-designated the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line.
