History

Masaru Station is a Matsuura Railway Nishi-Kyushu Line station in Hikarimachi, Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture. Its predecessor, the former JNR Matsuura Line, was completed when the Imari Line from the Imari direction and the Matsuura Line from the Sasebo direction connected at this station. It opened as a Sasebo Railway station on 29 August 1931, at Ōaza Sasa Koura-men, Sasa-mura (now Koura-men, Sasa-chō). Sasebo Railway was nationalized on 1 October 1936, and the station became a Railway Ministry Matsuura Line station. It was relocated to its present site on 1 March 1945 with the opening of the new Sasa–Ainoura section, which completed the Matsuura Line throughout. After the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, it was transferred to Matsuura Railway on 1 April 1988, becoming a station on that company's Nishi-Kyushu Line.

Notes

In front of the station, on the grounds of Horiuchi-gumi, the firm that built the connecting line, stands a monument commemorating the Matsuura Line's completion, made from wheels, rails, and railway ties.
