History

Mangatsuka Station was opened on 1 March 1947 by Japanese Government Railways as an additional stop on the existing Kitto Line. Car-load freight service began on 1 November 1949 and was discontinued on 20 September 1962, parcel service ended on 1 February 1984, and the station was destaffed on 14 March 1985. It passed to JR Kyushu at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways. The original station building has been removed, replaced by a small waiting shelter, and the unstaffed single-side platform now sees only a handful of passengers a day.
