History
Magura Station opened on 1 June 1929 as Nakasuji Signal Station on the Japanese Government Railways' Maizuru Line, between Umezako Station and Maizuru Station (now Nishi-Maizuru Station). A petition to upgrade it to a full station was made in April 1948, and construction of station facilities began in 1949. It was upgraded from signal station to station on 1 September 1951, opening as Magura Station, handling passengers only with no freight service. A 1972 plan to unstaff the station met local opposition, but it became unstaffed on 1 April 1973, and complete unstaffing followed on 8 March 1979 when the remaining operations staff were also withdrawn. It passed to JR West at the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station building was removed in October 1999 and the site became a parking lot.
Notes
The 7.3-kilometer distance between Magura Station and neighboring Umezako Station is the longest interstation distance on the Maizuru Line.
