History
Kyūjōmae Station opened on 1 July 2002 as a station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway's Gomen–Nahari Line. It is located in Sakuragaoka-chō, Aki City, Kōchi Prefecture; its station number is GN28. As its name suggests, it is the nearest station to the Aki Municipal Stadium, and all rapid trains stop there. It is a ground-level station on an embankment, with a single side platform serving one track on the north side of the line, and it is unstaffed. North of the station are the Aki Municipal Stadium and the multipurpose gymnasium "Aki Dome"; the Hanshin Tigers professional baseball team holds its training camp at the stadium every year, and the station bustles with visitors during that season. In March 2021 a new station, "Aki Sōgō Byōin-mae Station," opened near the Aki General Hospital.
Notes
The station mascot, Kyūjō Ball-kun, is a baseball with a face wearing a striped pale-orange uniform and cap, and an original song about the character — written by Takashi Yanase — appears on the Gomen-Nahari Line tribute album released in 2003.
