History
Kute Station opened on 11 July 1915 with the San'in Main Line extension between Oda and Iwami-Ōda (now Ōdashi), handling both passengers and freight. Freight handling ended on 7 November 1982 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985, when the station was made unstaffed. The 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways transferred Kute to JR West and staff were briefly reinstated, but the station was unstaffed again from 10 March 1990. The platform was formerly an island platform serving two tracks; the track on the station-building side was lifted during the 2001 San'in Main Line speed-up programme, leaving a single ground-level side platform on the right-hand side of the line looking towards Masuda. The wooden station building has since been demolished.
