History

Kusano Station opened on 27 March 1958 on the Japanese National Railways Fukuchiyama Line, between Aimoto and Furuichi, as a petition station whose construction costs were borne entirely by the locality. It came under JR West at the 1 April 1987 privatisation, and the "JR Takarazuka Line" branding for the surrounding section was introduced the following year. Doubling of the track on 8 March 1997 expanded the layout from a single platform to two opposed side platforms. Automatic ticket gates entered service in January 1999, ICOCA on 1 November 2003, and station number JR-G66 on 17 March 2018. The station stands 50.5 km from the line's starting point at Amagasaki, and is unstaffed, managed by Fukuchiyama Station.

Notes

Until the Fukuchiyama Line was doubled in March 1997, Kusano had only a single platform and no passing loop, so some local trains ran through the station without stopping — as they also did at Minami-Yashiro, two stations to the north. Because the station has neither points nor absolute signals, it is classified as a halt rather than a full station.
