History

Kōtōdai-Kōen Station opened on 15 July 1987 on the Sendai Subway Namboku Line, beneath central Aoba-ku, Sendai. It lies about 7.3 rail kilometres from the line's northern terminus at Izumi-Chūō. The station has a single island platform serving two tracks at underground level. Service was suspended between 11 March 2011 and 29 April 2012 after the Tōhoku earthquake damaged the subway network. Daily passenger volume averaged 15,138 in fiscal 2015. The station serves the cluster of city and prefectural government offices nearby, including Sendai City Hall, Aoba Ward Office, and the Miyagi Prefectural Office.

Notes

Sendai City Hall, the Aoba Ward Office, and the Miyagi Prefectural Government building all stand in the station's immediate surroundings, making it the station for Sendai's administrative precinct.
