History
Kōshinzuka Station (SA 21) is a Toden Arakawa Line (Tokyo Sakura Tram) stop in Nishi-sugamo 2-chōme, Toshima, Tokyo. It opened on 20 August 1911 when the Ōji Electric Tramway opened its Asukayama-ue (today Asukayama) – Ōtsuka (today Ōtsuka-eki-mae) section. The stop passed to the Tokyo City Tram's Takinogawa Line (today the Arakawa Line) on 1 February 1942, when Ōji Electric was bought out by the City of Tokyo; services were suspended in 1944 under wartime restrictions and resumed on 10 July 1946. A renovation completed on 19 December 2008 redressed the stop in a retro wood-grain style evoking the Shōwa 30s (1955–1964), and an eatery occupies the Minowabashi-bound platform; the nearby Sugamo Jizō-dōri shopping street is home to Kōgan-ji, the temple of the 'splinter-removing Jizō', whose fairs on the 4th, 14th and 24th of each month draw large crowds.
Notes
Kōshinzuka stop is the gateway to Sugamo Jizō-dōri shopping street, where every month's 4th, 14th and 24th become bustling fairs at the Kōgan-ji 'splinter Jizō' temple — drawing crowds of the elderly.
