History

Kii-Miyahara Station opened on 11 December 1925 on the Japanese National Railways Kisei West Line in what is now Arida, Wakayama Prefecture. The line through the station became part of a unified Kisei Main Line on 15 July 1959. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1984 and parcels on 14 March 1985. JR West took over at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. ICOCA service began on 14 March 2020 and the station was fully destaffed from 1 June 2021. The platforms once formed a combined side-and-island layout with two platforms and three tracks, giving the station a central passing loop; the centre track's signals were taken out of use by 2007 and the track and overhead wiring were later removed, leaving two side platforms in use.

Notes

Kii-Miyahara has no platform 2: when the centre passing track was taken out of use around 2007 the platform was fenced off and closed, and its number was simply left as a gap in the station's platform numbering. The old wooden station building is still in use.
