History

Kawaramachi Station, on the Sendai Subway Namboku Line in Wakabayashi-ku, opened on 15 July 1987 with the line's inaugural section. The spot had earlier been a Sendai City Tram stop of the same name, opened on 2 December 1934 as part of the Nagamachi tram line and shut on 1 April 1976 when the city tram closed. The subway station is numbered N13, with a single island platform underground beneath the former National Route 4 alignment. Platform-edge doors went into service on 14 November 2009, and icsca was introduced on 6 December 2014. Two entrances on the road and a sidetrack just north of the platform complete the layout.

Notes

A pre-war Sendai City Tram stop of the same name preceded the subway here by more than half a century, opening on 2 December 1934 along the Nagamachi tram line.
