History

Kataharamachi Station, in Tsuruyachō, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, is a station on the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad's Kotohira Line, and is also served by trains of the Nagao Line, which begins at Kawaramachi Station. Its station numbers are K01 on the Kotohira Line and N01 on the Nagao Line. It opened on 18 February 1948, when the line was extended from Kotoden-Takamatsu Station (now Kawaramachi Station), and on 26 December of the same year the line was extended further from this station to Chikkō Station, a temporary station that is now Takamatsu-Chikkō Station. It is an at-grade station with two side platforms and two tracks; it is staffed and is a designated stopover station, where passengers may break their journey. The area around the station adjoins the Takamatsu Central Shopping Arcade and lies in a busy commercial district that is home to the Takamatsu Mitsukoshi department store and the head office of Nishi-Nippon Broadcasting.

Notes

At Kataharamachi Station, there was a period when an arrangement of the commercial jingle for the local supermarket chain "Maruyoshi Center" was used as the departure melody on track 1 and the approach melody on track 2.
