History
On 12 April 1905 — the same day the Hanshin Main Line itself opened — Kasuganomichi Station began operating, originally as an at-grade stop on a shared roadway north of its present site. The station closed in 1933 when the line moved underground, reopening at its current site on 1 May 1934 with a single island platform only 2.6 meters wide — narrower than the trains themselves — a layout once called Japan's most dangerous station. Side platforms opened in September 2004, barrier-free facilities and the platform extension on 7 August 2005, and renovation finished on 27 March 2006. The underground station, numbered HS-31, now sits beneath National Route 2 and serves only local trains on the Hanshin Main Line.
Notes
About 450 meters away, across the JR Kobe Line, a Hankyu Kobe Line station carries the identical name — and since Hanshin's platform was rebuilt in 2004, the Hankyu station's platform has been the narrower of the two.
