History

Kaminoge Station opened on 1 November 1929 as a station of the Meguro-Kamata Electric Railway Futako-Tamagawa Line, the forerunner of today's Tokyu Ōimachi Line. Automated faregates were installed in April 1999, and a major rebuild began in June 2006. A new station building entered service on 20 December 2007; the old building, taken out of use the day before, was demolished and rebuilt as a north entrance that opened on 18 December 2010. An up-direction (Ōimachi-bound) passing track was completed in January 2008, ahead of the 28 March 2008 timetable revision that introduced express services on the Ōimachi Line — expresses pass through Kaminoge, overtaking local trains here during weekday peak hours. The rebuild was completed on 31 March 2011.

Notes

The two station buildings stand on either side of the Fudō-bashi overpass that crosses the cutting the tracks run through, and are linked by a shared roof spanning the road, giving the station a distinctive unified appearance; they were designed by the architect Tadao Ando.
