History

Kamate Station was established as a station on the San'in Main Line and is now a ground-level station operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West). Since its opening on 26 December 1923, it has long functioned as a transportation hub for the surrounding communities. Waiting rooms and covered benches are installed on both the up and down platforms, and a boarding-certificate issuing machine was formerly placed in front of the stairs. Ridership has declined greatly in recent years: average daily boardings were just 14 in fiscal 2022, down from 119 in fiscal 1984. The neighboring stations are Okami and Iwami-Tsuda, and there is an Iwami Kōtsū bus stop in front of the station.
