History

Iwami-Tsuda Station opened on 26 December 1923 as an intermediate station of the Japan Government Railways San'in Main Line when the line was extended from Miho-Misumi to Iwami-Masuda (today's Masuda). Located in present-day Masuda, Shimane, the station handled both passenger and freight traffic at opening; freight operations ended on 1 February 1963 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station became unstaffed in March 1985, briefly returned to staffed operation at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 when JR West took over, and was unstaffed again from March 1990. On 2 November 2024 cracks found on a slope after heavy rain closed the Miho-Misumi–Masuda section, including this station; services resumed on 30 November.

Notes

The station building survives but has been let out to tenants, including a bakery that opened in 2018 and was succeeded by another bakery, "Eki-pan Kuru-Kuru", in February 2022.
