History

Kajiwara Station (SA 14) is a Toden Arakawa Line tram stop in Kami-Nakazato 3-chōme, Kita-ku, Tokyo. It opened on 1 April 1913 as Asukayama-shita Station, the original terminus of the Ōji Electric Tramway's first section from Mi-no-wa (today Mi-no-wabashi); on 31 October 1913 the line was extended to Yamashita Station (today Sakaemachi) and this stop was renamed Kajiwara. It became part of the Tokyo City Tramway on 1 February 1942 when the Ōji Electric Tramway was sold to Tokyo City.

Notes

Until it closed in 2021, the secondhand bookshop Kajiwara Shoten — which also sold tobacco and was said to be the used bookshop closest to a station anywhere in Japan — adjoined the Waseda-bound platform. The shop owner's eldest son, Yasuhiro Nemoto, was a former JRA jockey who won GI races including the Tokyo Yūshun, and was afterwards a trainer until February 2026.
