History

Jōro Station opened on 25 August 1933 with the extension of the Takayama Line (renamed the Takayama Main Line in 1934) from Hida-Hagiwara Station to Hida-Osaka Station, and began handling both passengers and freight. Freight handling was discontinued on 1 August 1961, parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, and the station became unstaffed on 1 April 1985. It became a JR Central station with the privatization and division of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. It is located in Jōro, Hagiwara-chō, Gero, Gifu Prefecture, and is a ground-level station with two opposing platforms serving two tracks, connected by a footbridge. The old wooden station building dating from its opening still stands.

Notes

The wooden station building at Jōro Station, dating from its opening, remains in use today unchanged.
