History

Izumisano Station opened on 1 October 1897 as Sano Station, the original terminus of the Nankai Railway's Sakai-Sano segment. It was renamed Izumisano on 1 April 1948 when Sano-cho was reorganised as Izumisano city. Removed from limited-express stops in 1968, the station was restored to limited-express status on 1 November 1985. Elevation works began on 12 December 1991, and the Nankai Airport Line opened on 15 June 1994 with this station as its origin. Full elevation was completed on 1 October 2008. Station numbering NK30 was introduced on 1 April 2012. Three elevated island platforms now serve four tracks.

Notes

Platforms 2 and 3, and platforms 4 and 5, each face a single shared track, and trains there can open the doors on both sides. Passengers changing between Kansai Airport services and Wakayama-shi services do so across the middle island platform, alighting at platform 4 and boarding at platform 3.
