History

Izumiōtsu Station opened on 1 October 1897 as Ōtsu Station, part of the Nankai Railway's opening between Sakai and the original Sano. A new station building was put into service in August 1941, and the station was renamed Izumiōtsu in July 1942 to match the city's name change. The 1944 wartime merger placed it under Kintetsu, and the 1947 line transfer returned it to Nankai Electric Railway. A new overpass-type building opened in June 1974, and the station was rebuilt as an elevated station, with the up line completed on 7 June 2008 and the down line on 4 August 2012. A solar-power system began operating on 25 January 2011, and the station is also fitted with a rainwater reuse system and water-saving toilets.

Notes

The station appears in verse 58 of the fifth collection of the Railway Song (Kansai–Sangū–Nankai volume, lyrics written in 1900): "Is this Ōtsu? Come then, let us alight and see the camphor tree of Shinoda as well."
