History

Izumi-Tamagawa Station opened on 1 April 1927 as a stop on the Odakyu Odawara Line, located in Komae, Tokyo, 14.4 kilometres from Shinjuku. It was to have been named simply Tamagawa, but because Inada-Tamagawa Station (today's Noborito) was being opened on the opposite bank of the Tama River, the local place name Izumi was combined with Tamagawa to give the present name. The line was elevated in March 1995 and a permanent four-track elevated platform layout was completed in 1997, when quadruple-track operation began, as part of the Odakyu quadruple-tracking project. Station numbering OH 17 was introduced in January 2014, and through-running Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line trains began stopping here in March 2018, with semi-express service added in March 2025.

Notes

A monument on the Tama River bank near the station commemorates the 1974 Tama River flood, in which the embankment was breached.
