History
Iwamura Station opened as a general station on 26 January 1934, when the Japanese National Railways' Akechi Line opened between Agi Station and this station. Ticket sales and gate checking at the station were discontinued on 1 April 1974, and wagonload freight and baggage-check handling ended on 1 December of the same year, when the station became unstaffed. It was transferred to the Akechi Railway on 16 November 1985 and now operates as a station on that company's Akechi Line. It is located in Iwamura-chō, Ena, Gifu Prefecture, and carries station number 5. In October 2001 it was selected as one of the 100 Best Stations of the Chūbu Region. Use of its semaphore signal ended with a change of blocking method on 25 March 2004, and on 14 April 2006 the decommissioned semaphore signal was restored as a monument on the station grounds. It is a ground-level station with staggered opposed platforms serving two tracks, where the up and down lines face each other diagonally, and is the only station on the Akechi Line where trains can pass one another. It is operated as a staffed station.
Notes
The restored semaphore signal on the station grounds is known as an unusual facility that visitors can operate themselves for 300 yen, with the stationmaster's permission.
