History
Itami Station opened on 16 July 1920 as the Hankyu Itami Line's terminus, about 150 meters southeast of today's site; the line substituted for Hankyu's Kobe Main Line, rerouted south through what is now Tsukaguchi Station instead of via Itami. The station moved to an elevated structure at its present site in 1968. The Great Hanshin earthquake of January 1995 severely damaged the building; service was suspended until a replacement terminus opened that March, 400 meters to the south, and a rebuilt station reopened within the "Reita" complex in November 1998, with station numbering (HK-20) added in 2013. Today it remains the Itami Line's elevated terminus, serving central Itami with connections toward Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe.
Notes
Inside the ticket gates is a capsule-toy (gachapon) vending corner, which has earned the station the nickname "the gachapon station" — reaching it requires a valid ticket or platform ticket.
